10 Work Resolutions for 2020

Many people draw up a list of resolutions for the new year before the current year has come to an end. These are not only related to personal life; many of them are work-related resolutions to kick off a new stage at work and therefore ensure a better quality of life for the year to come. What do we want to do now? What do we need? Here are 10 work-related resolutions to get 2020 off to the best possible start.

  1. Analyse your professional career: If you’ve been working in the same place and have had the same routine for a long time, it’s easy to forget what got you there. In 2020, take some time to look over your career to date and ask yourself a few questions: What are my strengths and skills? What do I need to keep evolving? Is it time to make a change and look for a new job?

  1. Learn to manage your time and be more consistent: One of the biggest problems when it comes to work is finding a way to be organised. Take advantage of the new year to learn about the most efficient organisational techniques and set yourself the challenge of applying one of them for as long as possible. By March you´ll be an expert!

  1. Learn as much as you can. Would you like to improve your level in a language you already speak? Improve by going to a language academy or using language learning applications. No matter what you want to learn, there are thousands of online courses out there to help you. Even if your choice depends on the position you hold, keep your options open. You never know what doors a new skill on your CV might open up for you.

  1. Refresh and improve your CV: And speaking of your CV, a good work-related resolution for 2020 may be to spruce up your CV to impress companies, whether you are looking for a new job or are applying for another position within your current company. Spend a few hours at the computer, unleash your most creative side and have a go at designing and updating your CV, giving it your own personal touch.

  1. Build a better social network presence: If you thought that social networks were only for leisure, you’re very much mistaken! There are tools such as LinkedIn or Twitter that may open doors for you this new year. Having a well thought out and constantly updated profile on social networks is key when it comes to defining an employee in their work environment. In 2020, there is no better New Year’s resolution than making that technological leap once and for all.

  1. Boost your personal brand and your skills: Quite often you can make the mistake of focusing too much on what the market has to offer, neglecting the self-recognition your skills deserve. Apply them on the job or highlight them in your job search in order to stand out from the rest. To achieve this, analyse your profile, build your own unique personal brand and you will offer a unique added value that companies will not be able to resist.

  1. Work on your relationship with your colleagues: This year you will spend many hours at work, so it is important to create a pleasant working atmosphere with other employees. In a good work environment, cordiality and a comfortable atmosphere must take precedence, so building strong relationships with your colleagues will lead to better results for you and your company.

  1. Improve your habits: The best New Year´s resolution is to look after yourself and find the right balance between well-being and job satisfaction. It may be complex, but in 2020, try balancing the stress of work with peace of mind, while making time for your hobbies, family and friends. If you improve your diet and keep fit with a sports routine, you’ll notice the difference right away!

  1. Learn to accept criticism. With a new decade ahead, it is a good time to remember that criticism and self-criticism are common practices which can be useful to point out what you are doing well and what you should change. Do it with a stable and positive attitude; rechannel the lack of success towards a path that is beneficial to you.

  1. Face new challenges. Success doesn’t come out of nowhere, if you set goals at work and do your best to achieve them, you will stand out in your company and open up new job opportunities for yourself. We quite often turn down interesting projects for one simple reason: fear. This year it is time to get rid of your fear and be open to new challenges to see how far you can push yourself.

At Claire Joster, we would like to wish you a happy 2020 and remind you that you can achieve your goals and get the job of your dreams. Discover our career opportunities!
